Ounadikom ***HIGHLY RECOMMENDED***
Ahmad Kaabour
Ahmad Kaabour
is a Lebanese pan-Arab nationalist, and
his song Ounadikom ("I Call
on You") has expressed, like no other
song, the Palestinian need for the world's
solidarity. He has been referred to as "the
voice of freedom" - a well-deserved
title.
Kaabour explains,
"When I composed Ounadikom at
an age of nineteen, I then leaped over my
age, my feelings and my life; my songs and
the war were ahead of me. And here I am
- since the occupation took place - enduring
a fatal leisure that pushes me to genuinely
explore love and man. I do not wish to be
a minute object in a consumary system, or
a bad witness of reality... "
This album,
arguably his best, contains several songs
about Palestine, including Heartbeat
of the West Bank,and Depart.
The first track, Ounadikom, is powerful
and empowering, and has been used as a protest chant. The rest of the CD is also brilliant.
Originally
released in 1976, then again in 1996, and
now we present the third edition, released
in 2004 (with a newer cover than the 1996
one pictured on the right). |
