Sabreena Da Witch
Witch's Intifada Mix-tape Vol. 1

Abeer Alzinaty, a Palestinian artist, R&B singer and educator, was born (1984) and raised in Lyd, 20 minutes from Tel Aviv, and 40 minutes from Jerusalem. The challenges of being a Palestinian woman living inside of Israel led Abeer to express herself through art. She studied film in the film department in Tel Aviv university, and photography in Bezalel Academy of art in Jerualem. When the second Intifada started in 2000, Abeer became active in political and social events.

Abeer was one of the writers in the first arab hip-hop website, Arabrap.net. She worked with the project director, Shadie Bisharat, to get Arab hip-hop music, articles and photos about the artists to the world.

“Palestine’s First Lady of R&B”, Abeer established herself in Palestinian hip-hop singing on the single Born Here with DAM. Inspired by Public Enemy’s music video for “Fight the Power,” Juliano Mer-Khamis, Director of the award-winning film Arna’s Children, helped DAM and Abeer turn the song into a popular music video in 2004. Hundreds of people participated in the creation of the video, which became a direct action protest against an Israeli checkpoint in their neighborhood. The Born Here video was played throughout Israel and established Abeer in the national music scene. After the video was a success, Abeer's relatives forbade her from touring with DAM on the Born here tour in Israel, and from taking any part is the palestinian hip hop scene; however since the release of the Born Here video, Abeer has written melodies and lent her vocals to every major Palestinian hip hop crew, and performed secretly.

Abeer has recently collaborated with LA-based Palestinian-American rap crew, The Philistines, and is currently working on a solo album showcasing here unique Eastern R&B and Dancehall style. She’s interested in continuing her exploration of feminist and revolutionary themes while collaborating with artists from around the world. She also worked with the Iranian rapper based in Sweden, Behrang.

Abeer was also featured in the documentary film Slingshot Hip Hop, which follows the life of young palestinian artists who started the hip hop scene in Palestine.
